Pumfu: How To Find It And Why You Should Know It

posted in: Lifestyle 0

Pumfu makes me laugh every time I say it. This newly invented plant-based food product is no laughing joke though. One of the best parts of a plant-based diet is finding foods that help me eat more plants. Pumfu is a soy-free version of tofu and it just might be the next great thing in my shopping cart.

What is Pumfu?

Pumfu is made from pumpkin seeds. Since tofu is made from soy, this product could work for people who are allergic to soy. For foodies who want to add a new protein source to their life, Pumfu could be a great addition. It’s vegan and gluten free and offers a good amount of essential nutrients like zinc, magnesium and healthy fats.

So What Am I Really Thinking?

In full transparency, I am thinking about buying some Pumfu. I discovered it in a ready made salad that I had for lunch the other day. The texture was firm and it took on the flavors of the ginger and carrot dressing in the salad. After eating the salad and searching online, I found out that Pumfu is an awesome plant-based protein.

Here’s why I might make a Pumfu purchase later this month:

  • One Ingredient: Just pumpkin seeds
  • Soy-Free: Even without a soy-allergy, this could be a great alternative to tofu
  • Nutrient Rich: Pumfu offers protein, magnesium and zinc
  • Versatile: It can be used in savory and sweet dishes
  • Vegan: This one is perfect for non-dairy and non-animal product recipes
  • Cholesterol Free: Because being kind to the heart is always a priority

What Kind Of Plant Power Is In Pumfu?

After my own health scare, I launched Black Girls Eat in full pursuit of fruits, vegetables and grains. I believe in the power of plants in the war against chronic diseases. Pumfu was launched by Foodies Vegan in 2019 and the plant power is promising. Let’s check out more reasons to love this versatile source of protein:

  • Magnesium: We need it for bone health and muscle function
  • Zinc: Fighter of infections and inflammation
  • Iron: Supports the transportation of oxygen throughout our body
  • Vitamin E: An antioxidant that supports healthy skin and fights free radicals
  • Healthy Fats: Those fats support healthy brain function
  • Heart Healthy: Cholesterol free which means it won’t clog arteries.
  • Fiber Friendly: This aids in digestion and helps to keep us satisfied and full

How To Cook With Pumfu

Similar to tofu, this product offers lots of ways to incorporate it into your life. It pumps up the protein and nutrients in any wrap or salad. You can also use it to power up:

  • Tacos
  • Scrambles
  • Stir-Fry
  • Soups
  • Smoothies

I have used tofu for many years now. There are even some recipes here on the Black Girls Eat website. Perhaps I will go back and see if Pumfu makes a difference in how they taste. Did you miss the tofu recipes? Here they are:

As of right now, I could only find Pumfu on Instacart and of course at the Foodies Vegan website. Let me know if you find it and if you try it out. I will keep you posted!
