She learned to cook on a wood fire stove and eventually made a name for herself as one of the only Black female chefs in NYC. Edna owned a restaurant, taught cooking classes and wrote both iconic cookbooks, the Edna Lewis Cookbook and The Taste of Country Cooking which are credited with reviving an interest in southern cuisine. You may have noticed that I haven’t shared any new content here in a while. You ever have the grandest plans but then everything goes crazy? Yeah… that’s how it goes. But I’m here!!!!! 💪🏽

I had to share this tonight though. Coffee is a plant. Don’t fall for the hype. 🌿☕️

I did manage to write a new blog post though. Check the link in the bio or head straight over to the Black Girls Eat website for my Oat Nog recipe. It’s dairy free and not just for the holidays. Thank to my girl @yummydomain for hanging out and making it with me.

We took lots of photos and video. If I can get it together… I might just make a reel about it one of these days. 😂 Can anyone relate?

Each New Year, I re-read The 4 Agreements by Don M Each New Year, I re-read The 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I’ve been doing that for at least a decade.

It’s a short book but a great reminder of how I want to show up on the planet. I used to make so many agreements with myself that I couldn’t keep up with them.

I realized that when I missed the mark or made a mistake, I would play judge, victim and jury in my mind over and over again in a way that was harmful to my self-esteem.

I read The Four Agreements at the top of every year to remind myself to keep it simple.

Of all of the agreements, “Always do your best” resonates with me. I feel good about knowing that at the end of the day, I did my best. Not anyone else’s best but mine.

Have you read it? Which agreement resonates with you?

Anyone have any other suggestions for books that made an impact on you/your life?

❤️
