The Sunshine Blogger Award
Thanks to Kat at Inevitably Fierce, I have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Please visit her site as she is living life and kicking Endometriosis to the curb one blog post at a time. The Sunshine Blogger Award is bestowed upon bloggers who are using their platform creatively to inspire and spread positive vibes on the planet. Additionally, it’s no accident that my nickname is LA Sunshyne. Despite the fact that my site is barely three months old, I’m honored that my colleague would think of me in this way.
The Sunshine Blogger Award Rules
Bloggers nominate other bloggers in order to recognize them for being positive, inspiring, and creative. This is about acknowledging achievements and offering support. The community of bloggers, I’ve connected with in the past three months have been super awesome and helpful. So here are the rules:
First of all, thank the blogger who nominated you and link their blog so others can find them.
Answer the 11 questions which the blogger who nominated you asked.
Nominate 11 bloggers and ask them 11 different questions
Finally, list the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog site.
MY ANSWERS TO 11 QUESTIONS
Tell us three things about yourself?
I’m a Leo child, I once got booed on the stage at the famed, Apollo Theater in NYC, I’ve had breakfast with Janet Jackson.
What is something you have always wanted to do?
I’ve always wanted to travel to Rome for the food and history.
If you could be an insect, what would you be and why?
If I could be an insect, I’d be a lady bug. I’ve never seen anyone go insane after discovering a lady bug on their sleeve or leg. They have a positive vibe and reputation for being friendly. In the same way, I’d like to think that I have the same characteristics.
What is the/a favorite memory you have and what is the worst memory you have?
My favorite memory is when I first saw my daughter. I couldn’t believe that she was a whole human being with a smile and a head full of hair. In fact, she was nothing like I expected and everything like I expected all at once. The worst memory is from the day I walked into high school looking like I’d just gotten out of junior high school–which was true. The girls at my high school looked they’d just walked out of Essence magazine. Although I cried in the girl’s bathroom for all of 3rd period, I managed to get home and begged my mom to take me to the store to get new gear.
How would you use your time if you no longer needed to work and money were not a factor?
I would run a youth leadership center for girls where they would have access to life skills, college readiness and career development programs. Girls need mentors and as a result, I’m all about girl power. I truly would do that 24 hours a day.
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
I love watching movies with my hubby and daughter. She’s 7 so even though we’ve seen all of the classics like the original Ghostbusters or Grease…it’s so much fun watching with her and getting her take on the script, the actors or the songs. She will eventually become a film critic/movie director.
What is one thing you could remove from your schedule to free up time for yourself?
I can and will remove Saturday morning activities for my daughter from my schedule. Otherwise, we will never get a chance to sleep in on the weekends. A 10am acting class sounds great until you realize that YOU have to get up and get her there. Thankfully, she’s agreed to a 4pm gymnastics class this fall.
What is your favorite topic to blog about?
Blogging about the new plant-based meals I’ve discovered has become my new favorite topic. It’s fun to sneak in edamame noodles for our lasagna or add chia or hemp seeds to our yogurt and cereals. I come from a family of southern and Caribbean folks who love to eat and eat well. Therefore, it’s my job to show them and that it’s possible to do that with just a few adjustments.
What is the best birthday party you have had?
I would have to say that I didn’t have many birthday parties but my parents did go all out for my Sweet 16. It was one big fairytale in the middle of the Bronx. I was the talk of the town for weeks. I still have the dress!
If there is a moment you could go back and do it over again, what was the moment and what would you do differently?
Honestly, I think I would have convinced hubby to try for twins. Of course, our daughter Taryn is a rockstar so having another amazing human being in our lives would have been just delicious.
What are you saving up for?
Ha! Saving? What’s that? Good question indeed! Lol!

I love the Sunshine Blogger Award. Reading your responses gave me a quick glimpse into who you are. I was recently nominated, after reading your answers, I think my answers may be extremely vague (uh-oh). LOL. Love your responses and I love the fact that this award is out there to showcase blogs that you probably would not have come across if it weren’t for another blogger.
