Galentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 13th. The holiday is all about girl power. It’s a day to let your girls know how much you love them. So shout out to your homegirls, your crew and the ride or die women in your life. This special day may have started off as a sit-com joke but now it’s a real thing.
How Did Galentine’s Day Become A Real Thing?
We can thank the genius of actress and comedian, Amy Poehler for Galentine’s Day. Her character, Leslie Knope on Parks & Recreation created the celebration. The show was on the air from 2009 to 2015. Although it’s no longer on the air, check out this really funny video below that captures the vibe of Galentine’s Day.
Please note, Galentine’s Day is not Valentine’s Day for girls. V-day might be all about the red roses and the romance. But Galentine’s Day is a complete celebration of incredible female energy. Amy Pohler’s character writes 5,000 word essays about each of the women in her life. I mean, where would we be without our girls? There are many ways to say, I love you. I like to invite the squad over for Bellinis. Strawberry is my favorite.
Bellinis are Perfect for Galentine’s Day
My Galentine’s Day Bellini choice is strawberry. Why are strawberries on the top of the list as one of my favorite fruits? It’s not hard to answer. They are red and shaped like hearts. Come on!
The Bellini was created in the summer of 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani. You may have heard of the iconic Cipriani restaurants. Anyway, the Bellini is just easy going, just like my Galentine’s Day girls. Unlike the Cosmopolitan or the Cosmo which requires a few tricky steps, the Bellini requires just two. Make the puree and pour the sparkling wine!
Ways to Remix Your Bellini
I just happen to love strawberry but you can pureé mango, blueberries, or peaches to make this Galentine’s Day treat. You can also use any of the following sparking wines:
- Prossecco: Sparkling wine made mostly in the Veneto region of Italy
- Cava: Sparkling wine made from a variety of grapes from Spain
- Cremant: The same as champagne but can’t be called that because it’s not made in the Champagne region of France.
Have fun making your Galentine’s Day Bellinis. Cheers to us for celebrating us!
